Reed Smith appoints four partners to its Energy, Trade & Commodities group

International law firm Reed Smith has announced the appointment of four new partners to its Energy, Trade & Commodities Group in London.
Keith Hartley, Peter Cassidy, Vincent Rowan and Gordon Bell will bring to thirteen the number of London based partners in Reed Smith's market leading Energy Trade & Commodities Group. Keith and Peter join this week whilst Vincent and Gordon will join later in the year.
Reed Smith appoints four partners to its Energy, Trade & Commodities groupThe four have a wealth of experience of major international energy and infrastructure projects – frequently supporting clients in a project counsel role throughout the life of a project from structuring, bidding, documenting and negotiating through to dispute resolution. Keith has extensive experience drafting and negotiating major energy infrastructure contracts, particularly in relation to gas and power, including nuclear and renewables. Peter focuses on the contractor side of the oil and gas, petrochemicals and power sectors, and Vincent on the owner/developer side of the oil and gas, power and transport sectors. Gordon meanwhile is an international arbitration specialist.
Reed Smith's Energy, Trade & Commodities Group boasts an enviable list of clients across the sector: producers (mining companies, oil majors and utilities), many of the worlds largest energy and commodity trading companies, banks who finance the sector and investment banks who trade energy and other commodities.
Kyri Evagora, partner and head of the Reed Smith Energy, Trade & Commodities Group commented:
"The energy and natural resources sectors have enjoyed unprecedented growth over recent years – including through the economic crisis. 2009 was an extremely successful year for many of our core clients and so for our Group. Our trading clients are aggressively diversifying beyond trading – creating integrated supply chains enabling them to add value across their commodity portfolios at every stage from production to marketing/trading. As they pursue these strategies, Reed Smith is increasingly called upon to support their projects and acquisitions around the world. The expansion of our Energy, Trade & Commodities Group in the last two years has to a large extent therefore reflected the growth and diversification of our core clients’ businesses. The appointment of four partners with such depth of experience as project counsel will significantly enhance the support we are able to provide to our producer and trading company clients around the world. We welcome Keith and Peter to the firm and look forward to the arrival of Vincent and Gordon later this year."
Greg Jordan, Reed Smith’s Global Managing Partner commented: "One of the factors which has contributed to Reed Smith’s success in recent years has been the creation and targeted growth of multi - disciplinary industry groups comprising hundreds of lawyers across our network of offices with deep shared sector knowledge, enabling us to offer truly commercial solutions to our clients in our chosen sectors. Given the strength of the energy and natural resources sector and our clients and expertise within it, there is an excellent strategic fit between what Keith, Peter, Vincent and Gordon will bring to our London business. More than that though, in this most global of sectors, their practices and expertise will link very well with the development of our energy and projects practices in the US, the Middle East and in Asia."
