Norton Rose Group, the international legal practice, today announced that the global head of climate change and carbon finance, Anthony Hobley, has relocated from London to Sydney. Anthony is one of the leading international lawyers working in the area of climate change and has recently been described by Chambers Legal Directory as "a pre-eminent leader in the field with an international reputation." Anthony has been heavily involved in the UNFCCC process throughout its history and played a key role as part of one of the negotiating groups at the Copenhagen talks. The relocation of Anthony to Australia supports the firm's strategy to be the top climate change practice in Australia and Asia-Pacific. “We have built a strong national climate change practice in Australia made up of 10 key lawyers across our five offices. As the largest international law firm in Australia we intend to be, and have the resources to be, the leading climate change practice in Australia," said Don Boyd, Group Deputy Chief Executive of Norton Rose. Leader of Norton Rose Australia's Climate Change team, Elisa de Wit commented: "I am very excited about Anthony's move and the benefits the Australian climate change practice will receive from his presence here. Together we will continue to build Norton Rose's reputation as a top climate change practice globally, regionally and nationally.” Anthony Hobley, global head of climate change and carbon finance, Norton Rose LLP, commented: “Since day one it was clear that to be the leading Global Climate Change practice we had to build a truly global team made up of a number of market recognised experts across offices, regions and time zones giving our team depth and breadth which is unrivalled. This we have done but we do not intend to rest on our success but to build upon it. The successful integration of Norton Rose Australia and their National Australian Climate Change team, led by Elisa de Wit, in January 2010 has provided a fantastic opportunity to do this and to further boost our leading global climate change capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region. We have built a leading global brand in this area and we are committed to offering the highest expertise in the field to clients worldwide.” While Anthony is in Australia, London-based climate change partner, Andrew Hedges, will lead the practice across Europe. Norton Rose Group has a leading climate change practice, with top tier rankings in Global Chambers & Partners 2010 and Chambers 2010 UK directory, which commented that the practice was “rated for its emissions trading expertise, this firm has real commitment to this arena and is noted for its pure carbon work. With particular experience of advising various banks on carbon finance projects, the firm has also become increasingly active for large utilities and compliance buyers in recent times.”
