Dechert LLP announced that Martin Day, a former joint head of the investment management practice of Linklaters, has now joined the London office of the firm to provide consultancy and professional support services to its Financial Services practice. Martin became a partner in Linklaters & Paines in 1976 and was at various times the partner in charge of the firm's Brussels office, its knowledge management services and joint head of its international funds practice, acting for many major names in the fund management industry, banks and custodians, corporates and also for investment exchanges. After retiring from Linklaters in 1994, Martin embarked on a portfolio career involving part-time working (sometimes concurrently) as a member of the former Investment Management Regulatory Organisation's Membership, Disciplinary and Appeals Tribunals, group compliance (and subsequently legal) adviser to the Guinness Flight Hambro group of asset management companies in London and Guernsey, a consultant to the former associated law firm Arnheim & Co (now Landwell) of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and also as a director of PWC's financial institutions practice in London. Having taken a M.Sc degree in Financial Services Regulation in his spare time and retrained for legal practice with the Financial Institutions Group at Herbert Smith LLP in London, he has now decided to continue working, principally in practice support, at the age of 65. "The cobbler has returned to his last", Martin Day said "I cannot think of a better firm to be working with in what is now my final berth. Dechert, with its rapidly expanding and much-respected private investment funds practice, is a firm I have known for over 30 years."
