Realignment of Schoenherr Budapest office

Central European law firm Schoenherr has taken a major step in realigning the management and practice teams of its Budapest office. The change comes as the firm gets ready to pursue its strategic plans for further expanding business in the region. Kinga Hetenyi is the new Managing Partner of Schoenherr's Budapest office. She has taken Sandor Haboczky on board, who will lead the local real estate practice.
Last year the firm took over the former Gleiss Lutz offices in Czech Republic and Poland and opened a green field operation in Bratislava. The beginning of this year marks Schoenherr's growth plans with new partners in Slovenia and Romania as well as expanding into new practice areas in Romania with a dedicated team for media & telecommunication.
"We have a very positive outlook for 2010. M&A business has significantly revived in the last few months. Several transactions are going on at the moment and new investors are entering the Hungarian market. The time to take over responsibility for an office in this market is just about right and offers thrilling opportunities to further develop the business" says new Managing Partner Kinga Hetenyi about the future of the Budapest office.
Hetenyi, who also leads the local Schoenherr M&A department, is a Hungarian attorney with over 15 years of experience. She joined Szecsenyi ügyvedi Iroda, the later Schoenherr office, in 2005. She has always worked in an international environment, including a year in Frankfurt. As head of the legal department of a global FMCG company listed on the NYSE, she rounded out her profile as a top corporate lawyer.
Sandor Haboczky a recognised M&A, corporate and real estate lawyer, is joining Schoenherr from a renowned local firm. Before that he worked for many years with Baker & McKenzie. He will head the real estate practice of the Budapest office. "We are very pleased with the opportunity to add such an experienced and well-established lawyer like Sandor to our team" commented Kinga Hetenyi.
Schoenherr opened its Budapest office in 2008, where it has established a top M&A practice and become an important player in the Hungarian market. The team advises mainly foreign investors on the complete range of corporate and commercial legal issues, with an emphasis on sophisticated corporate, finance and real estate transactional work.
Among the major deals in 2009 the office advised Skandia Lebensversicherungs AG, Cadbury (full scope legal advice and closure of the Hungarian branch), Strabag (merger control proceedings), several car manufacturers and suppliers of the automotive industry, major international airlines, a Russian energy trading company, JKX Oil & Gas plc, several major Austrian banks and their Hungarian subsidiaries, etc.. Schoenherr's presence in the Hungarian legal market remains firm and stable, profiting from the firm's expansion into this region over the last two years. With 12 offices and more than 300 lawyers, Schoenherr has established a leading position in the Central European legal market.
From 1 February 2010 the office will operate under the name Schoenherr Hetenyi ügyvedi Iroda.
