International legal practice Norton Rose Group is promoting 12 associates to the partnership. The new promotions take effect from 1 May 2009. Peter Martyr, Chief Executive, Norton Rose LLP commented: “In the current economic environment the 12 new partner promotions reflect the continued investment in the practice internationally.” There will be five new partners in banking, four in dispute resolution two in corporate finance and one in real estate. The promotions will create four new partners in Asia (two in Hong Kong, one in Beijing and one in Singapore), seven in Europe (four in London, two in Milan and one in Frankfurt), and one in the Middle East. The total number of partners as from 1 May 2009 will be 276. Details of the new partners are as follows: Cecilia Buresti (Milan): Cecilia is a litigation and arbitration expert based in Milan. Her practice is focussed on the insurance and reinsurance sector and on insolvency matters. She also has experience of advising on disputes in the aviation, real estate and financial services sectors. She joined Norton Rose in 2001 and is now the head of the Italian dispute resolution team. Nick Clayson (Dubai); Nick is a real estate lawyer based in Dubai. He specialises in all aspects of real estate including development, investment, corporate occupation, hospitality and financing and has worked on some of the regions most high profile real estate projects. Ruth Cowley (Hong Kong); Ruth is a dispute resolution lawyer with experience of a wide range of commercial and banking litigation cases from London. She has recently advised on competition, corporate, shareholder, energy and aviation disputes in Asia. Michael Godden (London); Michael is based in the dispute resolution team in the London office. He undertakes a broad range of commercial and banking litigation with a particular emphasis on derivatives and structured finance disputes, civil fraud, asset tracing and enforcement and advice on criminal investigations. Andrew Hedges (London); Andrew is a London-based climate change and clean energy lawyer working on a range of transactions driven by the ongoing transition to a low carbon economy. He has a particular focus on structured transactions in international carbon markets and the development of wind, solar and biomass projects in the EU. Lars Jessen (Frankfurt); Lars is a corporate finance partner with experience of work for private equity investors in Germany. His promotion will strengthen the restructuring practice in Germany and Europe. Tom Luckock (Beijing); Tom is a projects lawyer specialising in climate change. He has assisted with debt and equity investments in biomass, solar, wind, coal mine methane, coal-to-chemicals, biofuel, hydro and waste-to-energy projects, and has been involved in 90+ CDM projects. Gennaro Mazzuoccolo (Milan); Gennaro is a banking and finance expert based in Milan. He specialises in project finance (energy and infrastructure) and shipping finance. In the project finance sector, he has vast experience of advising on renewable energy (solar and wind) projects and has also advised on export financings supported by SACE and other export credit agencies. In the shipping sector, Gennaro has advised many domestic and international banks and financial institutions on shipping and shipping finance matters (including fleet financings, registration of vessels under Italian flag and acquisition of shipping companies). Jon Perry (Hong Kong); Jon is a currently a London-based corporate finance lawyer but, given his strong client contacts in Asia, will practice as a partner in the Hong Kong office, focusing on cross border M&A work in Asia and Africa. Ben Rose (Singapore); Ben is a Singapore-based banking lawyer with a focus on restructuring and Islamic finance. Ian Teare (London); Ian is a shipping lawyer in the dispute resolution team with expertise in marine casualty and admiralty and marine insurance. Charles Whitney (London); Charles is a banking lawyer specialising in energy project finance. He advises developers, commercial banks and ECAs/multilaterals on power, petrochemicals and oil and gas transactions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
