US competition lawyer Andrea Agathoklis has rejoined the Antitrust, Competition and Trade (ACT) practice at international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, effective 23 March. Agathoklis has spent more than three years as Attorney Advisor to Chairman and now Commissioner William Kovacic of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In this role, she worked closely with Kovacic, the other Commissioners’ offices, and the staff. She was responsible for a broad portfolio of antitrust matters, including involvement in many of the FTC’s most important prosecutorial and adjudicative decisions on mergers and anticompetitive behaviour. At the FTC she also assisted in the review, analysis, and development of policy positions affecting domestic and international issues. Since 2004 she has also served as a Professorial Lecturer in the Law at George Washington University Law School, where she was awarded her JD with honors in 2001 before joining Freshfields in 2003.
