International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed Paul Domnick as global chief information officer (CIO), with effect from 12 January 2009. In this role, Paul will be responsible for the firm’s information technology strategy and for the delivery of world class IT infrastructure support. The position, based in London, reports to chief executive Ted Burke. Ted Burke comments: ‘The strategic use of information technology is of great importance to our business and Freshfields has always taken an innovative and market leading approach to IT development and deployment. ‘Paul’s appointment is another step in ensuring that we continue our proactive approach to new technology and its business application. We are delighted that Paul will be leading our development in this important area.’ The CIO will be responsible for a global team of more than 200, covering areas such as infrastructure operations and helpdesk support; technical architecture; vendor management; application support; programme and project delivery; and support functions including business continuity, and information assurance. Profile Paul Domnick was previously group chief technology officer and deputy head of IT for Zurich Financial Services (ZFS) responsible for technology strategy, standards, enterprise architecture and applications architecture across the entire business. Before taking on this role in early 2007, Paul was head of global IT sourcing for ZFS. Paul joined Zurich in 2004 from Deutsche Bank where he was global head of data centres. Earlier in his career he held a number of executive positions with financial services and technology organisations covering areas such as global deployment and service delivery, and account management of large IT portfolios. Paul has a BA (Hons) in Chemistry from Jesus College, Oxford, and was awarded an open exhibition in his first and second years.
