Slaughter and May advised Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) on the English law aspects of its acquisition of Bank of Western Australia Limited (BankWest) and St Andrew's Australia Pty Ltd (St Andrew's) from HBOS plc for A$2.1 billion. The purchase agreement which was signed on 8 October, 2008 is conditional on the receipt of all necessary competition, regulatory and governmental approvals.
