Matthew Layton, currently co-head of Clifford Chance's London corporate finance/M&A group, will take on the role of global head of the firm's corporate practice from November 2008. Layton, a Clifford Chance partner since 1991, comments: "I am delighted to have been elected to this important role within the firm. Our worldwide reach, combined with leading regional expertise, means that we are in a unique position to give our clients an international and strategic insight on the challenges and opportunities arising in the current market. "Clifford Chance's global strategy has seen the corporate practice go from strength to strength around the world and I look forward to working with our highly talented team, across all regions and markets, to continue the development and growth of the practice." The appointment follows predecessor Peter Charlton's election to become regional managing partner for the firm's operations in Asia from November 2008. Once in the role Layton, whose private equity client list includes Permira and Bridgepoint, will continue to be an active fee-earner, spending a significant amount of time on client work.
